How To Insert Your Cup

1. Wash your hands and Hume’s Cup with warm water and mild, fragrance- free, soap. Rinse your hands and Cup thoroughly.

2. Make sure the four air holes at the top of your Cup are clear and unclogged.  This is a very important step that will help you remove your Cup later.

3. To prevent injury, ensure that nothing is present in your vagina prior to inserting the Cup.

4. There are different ways to fold your Cup before inserting it.  The most common are the “C Fold”, and the “Push Down Fold”.  Every woman is different, experiment with these folding methods to find out what works best for you.

5. Choose a comfortable position. Squat, raise one leg, or sit on the toilet.

6. Use your free hand to gently separate your labia. Relax your pelvic floor muscles and gradually slide the Cup into your vagina, Cup Rim first. Ensure the Cup slides up and back (at an angle) towards your tailbone. The Cup will open as it goes in.

7. Ensure the Cup is fully open and sealed against vaginal walls.  To ensure this, gently pinch the area above the Cup’s Stem and rotate to verify suction.  Run your finger around the body of the Cup to ensure there are no folds and the Cup is completely sealed.  It is important that the Cup is fully opened and sealed against the vaginal walls to prevent possible leaking.

Do not exceed 12 hours of use without emptying your Cup to help prevent Toxic Shock Syndrome.

How To Remove Your Cup

1. Wash your hands with warm water and mild, fragrance-free, soap.

2. Chose a comfortable position. Squat, raise a leg, or sit on the toilet.

3. To break the seal, use your thumb and index finger and gently pinch the ribbed area above the Stem.  If necessary, wiggle the Cup gently as you are pulling it out of the vaginal opening.  Keep the Cup upright to avoid spillage.

4. Carefully slide the Cup out of the vaginal opening.

5. Empty the contents in the toilet. Wash your Cup and repeat the insertion process.

6. At the end of the cycle, wash your Cup and sanitize it by boiling it for 5 minutes before storage. Note: this is done at the end of the cycle not in between uses.

Tips

If you have difficulty finding the Cup, use your thumb and index finger to locate the Stem, while gently moving your pelvic floor muscles.

Do not pull the Cup out from the Stem. The Cup should always be pulled out from the Ribbed Area above the Stem.  The Stem is used only to locate the Cup.

Gently tilt the Cup forward as you are withdrawing it out of the vaginal opening. This helps you keep the Cup upright and avoid spills.

Warning

The Cup does not prevent pregnancies and does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

The Cup is not intended for postpartum bleeding. Please consult your gynecologist about Cup use after childbirth.

Consult your gynecologist if you have any existing gynecological conditions or if you plan to use the Cup with an intrauterine device (IUD). There is a small chance that improper insertion or removal of the Cup could pull off the strings or cause the IDU to dislodge.

To prevent injury, do not engage in vaginal penetration while wearing the Cup.
